Metal Gourmet Donates Cart to Tamale Entrepreneur
Metal Gourmet helped Alicia Villanueva realize a dream when it donated a gourmet steamer cart to the aspiring tamale maker.
“We are very excited to see Alicia launch her business,” says Jeff Burke, CEO and president. “We appreciate the difficulties of starting a mobile food business, especially for someone with limited resources.”
Villanueva had been making tamales for friends and families her whole life when she decided it was time to turn her passion into a business. The mother of three sometimes sold tamales door to door, but she dreamed of having her own tamale cart.

The Finishing Touch
Airtronics paints SCU’s Baja SAE Race Car
Santa Clara University ’s MotorSports team worked hard all year to design and build an off-road race car to meet Baja SAE rules and specs by May. In April they were in the final stretch, tightening the last bolts, when they realized they were missing one crucial feature: paint. Later that month, team member Caitlyn Alexander and her class took a tour of Airtronics’ manufacturing plant. When she saw Airtronics’ wet and dry paint operations, Caitlyn asked Jeff Burke if Airtronics would be willing to paint the car’s tube frame as an in-kind contribution. On May 5, the SCU Motorsports team rolled their freshly powder-painted Baja SAE car into the quad to celebrate the car’s completion.
Metal Gourmet Sponsors Street Food Conference
Metal Gourmet marked its entrée into the national street food scene by hosting a luncheon and exhibiting its carts at the National Street Food Conference, August 22. Held at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center, the conference brought together more than 200 public officials, chefs and vendors from around the country to discuss the culture of street food, policy and legislation, the economics of street food, and small business incubation.

Airtronics Licensed to Manufacture Trailers
To ensure that Metal Gourmet uses the highest quality trailers for its mobile food carts and trailers, Airtronics has become a licensed trailer manufacturer.
“We quickly realized we could achieve better quality by building our own trailers than by modifying existing trailers to meet Metal Gourmet’s specifications,” says Jeff Burke, president and CEO. “In addition to specialty trailers for the mobile food market, we are licensed to build custom light- to medium-duty trailers for a variety of uses.”
In addition to becoming a licensed trailer manufacturer, Airtronics has joined the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM), an organization dedicated to promoting safety and quality in the trailer manufacturing industry.

A barbecue lunch for Airtronics employees was hosted by Metal Gourmet on August 24. All food was cooked on Metal Gourmet’s new modular catering car. Jeff Burke and Jim Ellis are pictured with the catering cart.
